Infertility Coping Measure

You may be concerned that you could have infertility problems. You may even know that you have specific problems and may have already had some treatment. It is NORMAL to be upset, crying, angry, sad and worried about not conceiving a baby for whom you have hoped and planned.

However, you may now sometimes find yourself struggling a bit and find that you are coping less well than you would like. If you wish to check and see how you are going you may like to print out this page and think about your answers to the following questions:

Do you feel that your sex life is not as good as it was when you weren't "trying" to become pregnant? Yes No
Do you need help in where to turn to next for help with your questions about infertility? Yes No
Do you very often find yourself thinking (even at times you don't want) about not yet being pregnant? Yes No
Do you find yourself angry and irritated, particularly with friends who are pregnant or have children? Yes No
Do you have no one to help and support you while you get medical help with fertility problems? Yes No
Do you worry that your partner may leave you if you can't have a baby? Yes No
Do you find that you now have difficulty sleeping right through the night? Yes No
Do you find yourself using alcohol, drugs or food to help yourself feel better? Yes No
Do you have trouble concentrating at work? Yes No
Are there worrying things from your past which are bothering you even more now? Yes No
Do you feel like life is not worth living anymore? Yes No

If you find that you have answered YES to a number of the above questions, you may find it helpful to consult a professional infertility counsellor. Sometimes asking for help is difficult but there are counsellors attached to all IVF clinics who are there to help you. Take this sheet with you and talk with a counsellor.
